  1. Parallel World 20 http://parallelw2.com Fewer Search Results but Better Quality Experimental Web 20 Search Engine If there's something you can't find, create it! January 2009 Copyright © 2008 ParallelW2 All Rights Reserved. ParallelW2, its logo, and ParallelW2 are trademarks of XYZ.
  2. Internet 2.0 has evolved the way in which information is presented and the method of interaction with users Wikis Blogs RSS RIA Taxonomy Bookmarking Mash-ups Podcasting 1
  3. Internet 2.0 has not evolved as regards the way that information is searched for on the Internet I am in London …. Where can I have lunch?…. In the current search engines…. We do the following … • We enter the search • The search engine : – Finds the set of pages that contain the user's query somewhere (basically looking for these words: where+can+I+have+lunch+in+London) – Ranks the matching pages in order of relevance – Takes a few sentences from each document that highlights the words that were typed in. – Returns the ranked URLs (non-structured information) and the snippets to the user as results pages. – Enables access to these URLs to “continue” the search 2
  4. Web 2.0 has not evolved as regards the way that information is searched for on the Internet I am in London …. Where can I have lunch?…. The current search engines …. Show the following search results … • Matching pages in order of relevance in the form of links to information web pages • Some search engines include a “local business results” search functionality but this is inadequate … and do not answer the question 3
  5. New search methods must be used, based on processing structured information … I am in London …. Where can I have lunch?…. In Pw2 …. we do the following … • We search for the city London on Pw2 (created and documented by a user according to the Wiki model). • If this city exists, we search for restaurants related to it • Pw2 shows us a list of restaurants in London indicating the main features of each and a user rating • We can operate with these restaurants (e.g. make a booking). This capability is based on the existence of Web Services that are called from Pw2 and shows the following search results … 4
  6. … stored in Databases that are created collaboratively in accordance with Web 2.0 concepts I am in London …. Where can I have lunch?…. • Basic information and rating of London Restaurants loaded in Pw2 • Capacity to access the URL of the restaurant • Capacity to access structured detailed information on the restaurant • Capacity to make advanced searches (e.g. restaurants that open on Fridays) • Capacity to operate with the restaurant (e.g. booking) 5
  7. The mission of Parallel World 2.0 (Pw2) is …. I am in London …. What can I visit? In Pw2 … we do the following … • We search for the city London on Pw2 (created and documented by a user according to the Wiki model). • If this city exists, we search for POI (points of interest) objects and/or Things To Do in objects related to the city • Pw2 shows us a list of POI and/or Things To Do in London indicating the main features of each and a user rating • We can operate with these objects (e.g. see routes associated with the POI or see the POI in GoogleMaps). This capability is based on the existence of Web Services that are called from Pw2 (e.g. presentation in Google Maps) 6
  8. … to promote Internet searches … I live in London …. and I want to promote my restaurant … In Pw2 … we do the following … • We search for the city London on Pw2 (created and documented by a user according to the Wiki model). • If this city exists, we search for restaurants related to it • Pw2 shows us a list of restaurants in London indicating the main features of each and a user rating • Given that our restaurant does not exist, we create it by using the “New” option. We then associate this restaurant with the city of London. As from this time, the restaurant exists for the Pw2 Community 7
  9. … that return fewer results but better quality … I am in London and …. I am sick … In Pw2 … we do the following … • We search for the city London in Pw2 (created and documented by a user according to the Wiki model). • If this city exists, we search for Healthcare Centers related to it • Pw2 shows us a list of Healthcare Centers in London indicating the main features of each and a user rating • On the basis of the user ratings and the service portfolio of the Healthcare Centers we select the Center to visit • Once the visit has concluded we evaluate the center so that its rating is updated 8
  10. … and also enable us to operate with the objects resulting … I am in London and …. I have seen something important …. In Pw2 … we do the following … • We search for the city London in Pw2 (created and documented by a user according to the Wiki model). • If this city exists, we create a “New” object and enter what we have seen • We associate the “New” with the city of London • If we have recorded a video or similar of the “New” we select the “New” and, by using the “upload” option we upload this file so that users can view it 9
  11. ... from the search through Web Services as in the real world … I am using Google Docs and …. I have detected a Bug …. In Pw2 … we do the following … • We search the Google Docs application in Pw2 (created and documented by a user or Google itself according to the Wiki model). • If this application exists, we create an “Incident” object and enter what has happened • We associate the “Incident” with the Google Docs application • If we have any additional information about the bug we select the “Incident” and, using the “upload” option, we upload this information so that it can be viewed in Google 10
  12. … contributing to implementing a new generation of Internet search engines I am browsing and …. I have found an interesting link about Google …. In Pw2 … we do the following … • We search for the Google Company in Pw2 (created and documented by a user or Google itself according to the Wiki model). • If this company exists, we create a Hyperlink object • We associate the Hyperlink with the Google Company 11
  13. Pw2. Where We Are The possibilities of Pw2 are unlimited. Fewer Search Results but Better Quality. If there's something you can't find, create it! Pw2. We create the Database. http://parallelw2.com 12
  14. What Will be New on Pw2 New objects • Objects necessary to create your Electronic Health Record: patient administrative data, health issues, Medications, Test results, etc. • Other objects proposed by users Intelligent search functions in natural language (existing in the current release. Try it searching for “The Best Restaurants in London”) • Search by natural language. Enter a search sentence in natural language and it is transformed to obtain the same results. For example, enter the expression “Where to have lunch in London” and the search is automatically launched for Restaurant Objects that exist in Pw2 related to London city. New Web Services • Presentation of an object in Google Maps (if its coordinates have been entered). Web service particularly useful for Points of interest, etc. • Making reservations at Hotels, Restaurants, etc. • Integration with social networks (find partner, Who is Who, etc.) 13
