Antonio Vivaldi • Was an Italian Baroque composer, priest, and violinist. • Was born in Venice in 1678. • Nicknamed “The Red Priest” because of his red hair. • Is known as one of the best Baroque composers. • Has written over 500 concertos. • Is known for composing instrumental concertos, especially for the violin. • Died a poor man in 1741.“The Four Seasons” is Vivaldi’s most famous piece. Johann Sebastian Bach • Was a German composer. • Played the organ, harpsichord, viola, and violin. • Was the youngest child in a family of musicians • Had 20 children. • Is known as one of the best composers of all time. • Bach died in 1750, at the age of 65 after having surgery to fix his blind eye.One of Bach’s most famous pieces is “Toccata and Fugue in D minor”, for the organ. http://www.dsokids.com/listen/composerdetail.aspx?composerid=8

George Frideric Handel • Handel was a German-British composer, born in Germany. • His father wanted him to be a lawyer. • Was famous for his operas and organ concertos. • Was born the same year as Bach, in a town 80 km away. • Moved to London in 1712 and became the director of the Academy of Music. • Died in 1759 at his home in London.
