    • produced by endocrine gland

    • interact w/ certain target cells

    • links nervous & endocrine system
    • controls hormone release
    • sleep, hunger, maintains homeostasis
    • controls pituitary gland

    • regulates body processes (growth, blood pressure, water balance)
    • responds to nerve impulses or hormone signals from hypothalamus
