A plant’s leaves make up its leaf system .

system = parts that work together

Why plants need leaves 1. Make sugar (food) & oxygen by using carbon dioxide, water & sunlight
Water enters the leaf from the roots and stem. Leaves make sugar for food that passes through the stems rest of the plant. Carbon dioxide enters the leaf & oxygen escapes through tiny holes under the leaf. Plants use energy from the sun to change carbon dioxide & water to make sugar & oxygen.
