Post Production What skills did we develop at the stage of post production? G325: Section A: Theoretical Perspectives in Media Question 1a)
Production and Post Production
Production at AS consisted of filming 2 minutes of material using handcam cameras OR producing a front page, contents and dps of a music magazine.
Post Production at AS consisted of editing your film opening on your chosen editing software, including adding titles, music, effects etc OR editing your images, using tools/effects on Photoshop and any changes you made after the 1 st draft.
You have 5 minutes to brainstorm everything you did for your main product at AS at the stage of post-production.
This must be detailed in terms of tools used, the software pros /cons, your strengths /weaknesses.
Production and Post Production
Production at A2 consisted of filming approx 3 minutes for the music video. It also consisted of taking pictures and compiling track lists, credits etc for the ancillary tasks.
Post production at A2 consisted of editing the music video, adding special effects, changing lighting, using transitions, matching shots to sound etc on your chosen editing programme e.g. Adobe premiere or I movie AND editing your photos, layout, font, colour etc on Photoshop for your ancillary tasks. Remember, post production will include any changes you made after the 1 st draft was completed.
You have 10 minutes to brainstorm everything you did for your main product at A2 at the stage of post-production. This must be detailed in terms of tools used, the software pros /cons, your strengths /weaknesses.
You should also detail your progression of graphics and DTP skills at stage of post production between AS and your A2 ancillary tasks.
You also have to remember that you produced and post produced work for both of your evaluations.
The main difference between AS and A2 for us is obvious – print to video but you might have used basic video post production software at AS for your evaluation answers.
You must be able to evaluate these skills and think about everything that you have learned for your entire two pieces of coursework.
Detail the progression you made post production specifically from:
Editing a conversation (prelim) to a 3 min music video (and possibly a 2 min opening to a film at AS)
Progression using Photoshop from a school magazine front cover to a music mag fc, contents page, dps to a CD digipak and magazine advert.
Try to think about how you have become more technically competent in terms of your use of digital technology to present work creatively at the stage of post-production.
All of your work should make reference to your knowledge of the KEY MEDIA CONCEPTS .
So if you were to state that you used Premiere’s dip to white tool as a transition you need to explain why you did this in terms of communication/meaning/mode of address for the audience.
E.g. “At the stage of post-production at A2, we used more advanced effects from Adobe Photoshop than at AS. I used the … tool to connote to the audience … This represents my singer as….which is a generic convention of this type of music.
You have 10 minutes to link 6 post production choices you made for your main task / ancillary tasks at A2 to one or more of the key media concepts e.g. media language, representation, narrative, audience, genre.
