3. Introduction
This presentation is to inform you on the music genre, the artist, our theme
and our plan for our music video. We want to deviate from the original music
video and add a bit of urban street culture to it.
In my group we are all very efficient in different areas in this area which is
why I believe we can make this video as good as it can possibly be. As a
group, we have extremely creative people, fantastic time keepers and
enthusiastic characters and there can not be any better for a group creating
a music video.
4. Target Audience
One of the fundamentals of music videos is the target audience.
There is no point of making a music video without having a
audience to target, its pretty basic. For example; a song like
One Direction – What makes you beautiful, would be targeted
at young girls, aged around 12-18 simply because they lust for
this kind of music. The clothes they would be wearing would
also please the eye or have similarities to the target audience.
Our target audience is pretty tricky to figure out because this
kind of song can be for anyone who is having an affair or once in
a very intimate relationship. I wouldn’t say this music video
would be for anyone below the age of 18 simply because of its
content and the meaning, it wouldn’t really relate to anyone
who's not fully matured yet.
It wouldn’t be a wide target audience but I’m going for roughly
people aged 18-28 simply because they are most likely to be
engaged in this kind of affair. Although going by my research
15-18 year olds listen to R&B the most.
The people this song would be targeting would obviously have
to be interested in Rap/R’n’B because that’s the genre of the
song. R’n’B is a style of music developed by African Americans
that combines blues and jazz, characterized by a strong
backbeat and repeated variations on syncopated instrumental
phrases.
Which is generally to do with relationships and the different
scenarios that can be made up of stories about love, affairs,
make ups and break ups.
5. Song Choice
We want to put across the definition of love and what it is
like to miss somebody and not being able to move on and
we believe this song would match the meaning oh so
perfectly because of the lyrics and song title “I Want You”.
If you look at the original video, you can pretty much
understand the meaning of the song which is what makes
the video so spectacular and difficult to emulate, but we
believe we can do BETTER!
One thing people obsess about today and don’t really know
the meaning of is LOVE. People are so obsessed with
finding ‘their love’ as if its something you work for, it
comes and goes and this is what the song puts across. We
believe this song is relevant and has such a powerful
meaning that it would work really well because as a unit,
we are very imaginative and creative. Another reason we
chose it is because its very rare you see many powerful love
related hip hop songs and we as a group fall under the Hip-
Hop subculture in terms of the way we dress, act and
represent ourselves as people in society.
‘’I've been thinking bout, I've been thinking about
I've been thinking bout you lately
Thoughts take me to when we were close’’ – this pretty
much makes the meaning of the song so obvious. He has
clearly found it hard to move on from the past and what
kind of relationship him and his former companion used to
share.
6. Lyrics & Video
Once the love was strong
Now it's long, long gone
'cause the pain, pain now as a storm
I remained, holding on
'cause I want you, 'cause I want you
I want you, I want you
I've been thinking bout, I've been thinking about
I've been thinking bout you lately
Thoughts take me to when we were close
Addicted to your love, feel I need another dose
I know it's a feeling that should be long gone
Things seem to come up when I hear our song
Golden brown girl, it seemed so long
Since I heard your voice, where did the king go wrong?
Emotions that, that they linger on
I guess 'cause I never knew a love so strong
So many hot girls I need your warm
The taste of your mouth girl I need your warm
Good food and love I need your warm
This here was made before we were born
A dreamer so I'm a keep dreaming on
It's kind of like 'The Breakup' with Jen and Vince Vaughn
[Chorus:]
Once the love was strong
Now it's long, long gone
'cause the pain, pain now as a storm
I remained, holding on
'cause I want you, cause I want you
I want you, I want you
'cause I want you, cause I want you
I want you, I want you
They say you don't know, know, know what you got
Till what you got is gone
Yeah I write such and such, you're a lot but the feelings not as strong
We were like 2 birds that were able to fly
I try to pick the right words to say to the sky
Some days I would try but wasn't able to cry
I never been good at saying goodbye
I take a deep breath when the times is hard
When I reminisce over you, my God
I spent many years trying to be the heartthrob
I guess it's only right that I got my heart robbed
The scent of a room that reminds me of you
A hint of perfume it reminds me of you
Take a look at the moon it reminds me of you
Hope the stars and the gods align me and you
[Chorus]

7. Music Video Idea
Our music video would have to reflect the theme of the song we have come
up with many ideas on how to make that happen. As a group, we’ve had
many discussions on how to make this music video as good as we can
possibly make it, everyone jotted down their ideas and came to a conclusion.
This video is not going to be basic nor extremely advanced.
The main characters in the video will be the man who finds it hard to move
on from the girl and the girl he reminisces about. As he thinks about her,
things start to go real slow and this vision will be in Black and White (flash
backs). All these thoughts and memories will be prompted by seeing her
again. He is embedded with the things they use to do when he sees her and
seems to forget he has supposedly moved on.
8. Location
we have many different locations but one of
the main places and where we believe the
music video will really come alive is in Central
London, preferably near the London Eye.
Why? Because at times it can be seen as a
place where people can reflect and think
about things. That’s exactly what the male
character in the music video is doing, thinking
about his former partner. Another place would
be the studios we are lucky to be using which
will be provided by the academy. We will be
using the studio for the chorus mainly when
our other male character will be lip syncing
the chorus.
When the main character is reminiscing, we
want to use Kelsey Park near the lake because
it really does give the romantic aura which is
pretty much what the music video is about.
9. Props
For the props we will need to use Images of lights and jewellery
studio lights which are provided by must go here
the academy as we intend for the
chorus to have a black background
with lights. We plan to use this
technique to fit in with the genre of
the music video we are planning to
create.
Hip hop and R&B tend to have
extreme close ups of Jewellery and
the artist face, so along with extreme
close ups with studio lights on a black
background brings out the detail of
the Jewellery we will be using in our
video.
10. Costume female actress
Female Actress: will be wearing high heels, tights/ leggings, top and coat, with straight hair. The
reason for this is because the representation of her will be sexy as the hip hop and R&B genre
features half naked sexy women in there videos but we will have her clothed as it will be
inappropriate to shoot scenes in the streets with our female actress wearing minimal clothing.
So to compensate for this I have decided female actress will wear red heels to connote lust and
love
Slim fitting dark blue jeans to show her figure in a fetish tic way and a cream and red jumper to
show sophistication as well as show her figure in a fetish tic way by this costume she will fit the
R&B genre in a fetish tic way rather than a voyeuristic way so she will feel comfortable whilst
shooting also considering the fact it is winter and it is cold outside.
11. Costume male actor 1
Male actor 1: will be wearing a hoodie, jeans and trainers as it is a subliminal
representation of the urban street life style. So to represent this I am going
to have him in a snap back which is also know as a baseball cap to fit into
the Hip-hop and R&B genre cream chino’s to make him appear stylish like
the R&B genre and a hoodie to further fit into the hip-hop genre.
12. Costume male actor 2
Male actor 2: will be wearing a flat cap, a blazer, dark jeans and shiny shoes
and a scarf, he will be wearing this as is conforms with the flashy
representation of “Will I Am” who's is the artist that sings the chorus in the
original music video the images below is the costume male actor 2 will be
wearing for the music video.
13. Camera angles
For our video to be effective us as a group are aware we are going to
have to use a variety of camera angles.
Example 1
Flash back Scene 1: Worms eye view of male actor 1 and female actress
lying on the grass together laughing. This camera angle effective as it
gives the impression of a happy couple together and also allows plenty of
background to be seen whilst having a strong focus on the actors
themselves. (Similar to example 1)
Flash back scene 2: will be a point of view shot from male actor 1
perspective as he swing on a swing with female actor: this shot will
engage the audience as to how he sees the female actor why they are Example 2
together making the audience feel empathy for him engaging them into
the music video and the song. (Example 2)
Flash Back Scene 3: this will be a long shot from behind both male actor 1
and female actress sitting on a bench in Kelsey park Hugging each other,
this will be a romantic scene as the environment around them connotes Example 3
love; the camera will then zoom in for a mid shot of both male actor 1
and female actress interacting with each other having a good time,
enjoying each others company. (example 3 but with two people)
14. Lighting
For most of our music video will be out side and we will use natural lighting
and shoot on clear sunny days, on occasions me may need change location
due to weather conditions.
As it is impossible to find a power source to plug lights into in a park, so we
must be flexible and possibly use bright torches to work as portable lights
when nesessesary.
