  2. 2. With the new seismic-resistant plaza structure erected workers prepare to cover it forming the base of the plaza deck.
  3. 3. Some additional views facing north of the completed plaza structure before covering.
  4. 4. Another view toward the north end of the first floor looking up and northwest.
  5. 5. Structural beams attach to plates that are embedded in concrete grade beams that are anchored with piles reaching to bedrock beneath the station.
  6. 6. This metal covering will blanket the entire plaza frame and is a base for concrete to be poured.
  7. 7. Underneath the plaza at the corner of S Jackson Street and 2nd Ave. S Ext.
  8. 8. The plaza structure facing southeast.
  9. 9. Facing south at the north end of the first floor with what will be the mechanical room in the foreground. The black stubs lead to geothermal heat-pump wells 300 feet beneath the floor.
  10. 10. Facing northeast out onto the plaza structure from the part of the first floor beneath the main building. This will be Amtrak’s future ticketing and baggage area.
  11. 11. A genie lift ducks beneath the plaza structure.
  12. 12. Facing north beneath where the plaza will touch the building and grand, marble stairs will descend to the main waiting room.
  13. 13. Seismic steel structure in the foreground dwarfs the original brick wall in the background.
  14. 14. The space beneath the plaza has been completely covered for perhaps another 100 years.
  15. 15. The sturdy new structure provides a large warehouse area for the train station.

  17. 17. Yellow wall supports can finally be removed allowing the last of the first floor concrete to be poured.

  19. 19. The covered plaza deck is being marked for concrete pouring. The hole in the middle is a vent and in the foreground are the iron canopy supports for the north face of the station.
