  • Water Conservation Talk Green-Schools Office, An Taisce
  • The Water Cycle
  • Local Water Situation
    • Where does your water come from?
    • Where does waste water go?
    • How and where is waste water treated?
  • Non-point source pollution
    • As water from rainfall and snowmelt flows over and through the landscape, it picks up and carries contaminants from many different sources.
    • This is called Non-Point Source Pollution .
    • This polluted water ends up in streams, lakes and the ocean by flowing directly in or by going, untreated, through storm drains.
    • Water also carries pollutants into underground drinking water as it soaks into the ground.
    • Fertilizers, weed killer, insecticides, fungicides
    • Pet droppings; poorly maintained septic systems
    • Detergents from washing your car, common household cleaners, improper disposal of paint, oil and other chemicals.
    • Pollutants can:
    • Destroy surface tension
    • Deplete oxygen
    • Disrupt light
    • Clog gills of fish and amphibians
    • End up in the food chain
  • What can we do?
    • Look at what you buy & use....
