  6. 6.  First Hispanic Justice of the Supreme Court & 3rd female. Princeton University & Yale Law school  From a young age her mother instilled the importance/power of education. Born to a Puerto Rican family, she grew up in a public housing project in the South Bronx.
  7. 7.  First Hispanic Woman to serve in the State Senate of California She was the first female recipient of the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2000. U.S. House of Representatives  she focused mainly on labor causes and environmental work. In February 2009, Secretary of Labor; became the first Hispanic woman to serve in the U.S. Cabinet.
