  • 1. RESEARCH: Digipack DeconstructionsGotye – Like Drawing Blood
  • 2. Gotye – Like Drawing BloodI have decided to deconstruct Gotye’s album, Like Drawing Blood. As I have found that it contrasts with other Singer/Songwriteralbums I have looked at.
  • 3. The first thing which is noticeablydifferent is the artwork. The coloursof Goyte’s digipack are quite draband also suggest a dark side, asthe artwork has been giving a bloodstained effect. This is makingreference to the title.Instead of having the artwork makereference to the artist it is linkedwith the album title andtracklistings. Here somecharacteristics of thesinger/songwriter genre areexpressed, the use of the coloursconnotes that he is trying toexpress heartbreak and romance inhis work. From previous research Ifound that singing about romanceand heartbreak is associated withthis genre.
  • 4. The positioning ofGoyte’s name and albumtitle are very subtle, withGotye’s name beingpositioned in the bottomright corner in small redink style writing. There wecould connote this is alink to the album title -Like Drawing BloodThe only place the albumtitle is placed is on thespine of the case in abeige/ cream colour, which has beencontrasting with the redblood colour on all of theartwork.
  • 5. The way that Gotye has used a blood stained pattern instead of aphoto of himself. Although this is different for the genre, the colourswhich have been used are drab, from these colours we connote thatthey are trying to express heartbreak and upsetting themes in hissongs.
