ADINET: Sharing Knowledge with Society

  1. 1. Sharing Knowledge with Society
  2. 2.  ADINET was established in 1994  It is a Network of Libraries and Information Centers  Started covering whole of Gujarat state.  Caters to all types of Libraries: school, college, universities, institutional libraries and even public libraries  Access is provided to hundreds of libraries, librarians and organizations through ADINET Network  The main vision of ADINET is:  To bring together Libraries & Librarians  Act as catalyst among libraries to enable them to achieve their goals by helping them to harness their limited resources and collective strengths so that Libraries can continue to play their historic role as society’s portal to information.  ADINET therefore promotes sharing of resources and disseminates information among Libraries by networking them
  3. 3.  To integrate the economic, scientific and technical information systems into an effective network  To co-ordinate with other regional & national Networks, Libraries & Information Centers by providing access to OPAC’s of Libraries. This will provide seamless connection & universal electronic access to the collective collection of Libraries, together with web-based materials  To provide Library Consultancy Services like creation of Website, Institutional Repositories, etc.  To develop Databases of non-print materials and Institutions  To prepare products & services for the Library profession  To help Library users & individuals practicing different professions, in getting specialized information of their interest.
  4. 4.  Librarians’ Day celebration  Each year ADINET celebrates the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan as Librarians’ Day, by conducting a Seminar on an important current topic  ADINET Monthly Lecture Series is held on last Friday of every month LIS Professionals give interesting & informative talks  ADINET has started a Student Group to provide support & leadership opportunities for MLIS Students  Professional Development Programs  In-Service Training Program for LIS Professionals (in Modules)  Manpower development programs  Completion of backlog work of library & information centers  Digitization work
  5. 5.  An Electronic Discussion List has been started with the help of INFLIBNET. This List helps to build online communication & share information  Database of over 5500 Current Periodicals received by over 140 libraries in & around Ahmedabad  Providing Document Delivery & Inter-library Loan by enabling users to locate periodicals/books/reports, so that these can be borrowed on ILL  Content Pages of Library & Information Science journals are regularly supplied to all members and providing full texts of selected articles from content pages  Information services through ADINET Website  ADINET Blog is provides platform to discuss LIS professional issues  CuCoLib is a RSS based service, current contents of 58 LIS Journals and LIS News subscribed

ADINET in Collaboration with INFLIBNET launched CVRS for academic community It is a web-based service available through INFLIBNET website Anybody can freely post their academic queries Questions on CVRS would be grouped into a number of subject categories and user would be required to choose their subject category before posting his/her question Questions would be answered by the volunteering Librarians and Information Specialists
  13. 13. Are Librarians going through an Identity Crisis? Librarians are almost always very helpful and often almost absurdly knowledgeable. Their skills are probably very underestimated and largely underemployed. ---Charles Medawar Create awareness of Importance of Information Librarians deserves Professional recognition Librarians must recognize their potential Change in attitude, values and code of ethics is very important
  14. 14. ADINET Initiated LIS Identity Project with the following objectives: •Increase the Usage of the Library and Improve the Services •Adopt User-friendly latest technologies •Encourage and facilitate collaborative and effective Resource-sharing •Prepare user-friendly and competent Library staff
  15. 15.
