1. What kind of media institution
might distribute your product &
why?
2. Brief description of what an institution is.
An institution is an establishment which distributes
different media products for different companies. For
example – ‘Bauer’ distributes ‘Kerrang!’ and ‘Mojo’.
Other examples of institutions are; IPC Media (NME),
Development Hell Limited (The Word, Mixmag) Future
Media With Passion (Metal Hammer, Classic Rock).
3. Which company do you want to distribute your
magazine?
I think I’d like ‘Bauer’ to distribute my magazine, for many
reasons, such as; they are a mass producing company
which is good as my media product has a large audience
because it covers a genre which has so many different
elements to it. Another advantage of using Bauer is they
have a lot of experience in magazines which are made for
my target audience (KERRANG!, Mojo); meaning they
have good knowledge of how many magazines to
produce and how to develop my product into something
more (e.g. ‘KERRANG! Radio’)
4. Information about Bauer Media
Founded in 1875 Bauer Media has established itself to
be one of the most successful media groups in the
world.
Bauer Media connects and engages 19 million
consumers every week with the most influential
brands in the UK. Such as – KERRANG!, Mojo, and Q.
Bauer Media is the biggest media institution in the
UK distributing to a wide range of audiences. From
women’s lifestyle to hard-rock.
5. After researching Bauer, I have seen that the
magazines that they distribute such as –
‘KERRANG!’ have been developed to more than
just a magazine; they have introduced other
media areas such as; its own radio station and
television channel. I think that my magazine will
also have extended areas of media – because I
think it will gain a larger audience – I think this
because it will be likely that my target audience
will discover ‘the music’ on the television or by
listening to it on the radio.
