  • 5. What is a PLE?
    • A Personal Learning Environment is a facility for an individual to access, aggregate, configure and manipulate digital artefacts of their ongoing learning experiences.
    • 6. The PLE follows a learner-centric approach, allowing the use of lightweight services and tools that belong to and are controlled by individual learners.
    • 7. Rather than integrating different services into a centralised system, the PLE provides the learner with a variety of services and hands over control to her to select and use these services the way she deems fit.
  • PLE characteristics
    • Supporting learners in planning and controlling their learning journey
    • 8. Setting their own learning goals
    • 9. Monitoring their progress towards achieving these goals
    • 10. Managing their learning – both content and process
    • 11. Enabling learners to aggregate resources and personalise their learning environment
    • 12. Providing recommendations to learners about resources and other learners (‘study-buddies’)
    • 13. Collaborating with others in the process of learning
    • 14. Providing support to learners for community building and collaborative activities
    • 15. A shared learning experience instead of a lone study
  • The ROLE vision
  • 16. ROLE widgets in LabSpace
