  5. 5. What is a PLE?<br /><ul><li>A Personal Learning Environment is a facility for an individual to access, aggregate, configure and manipulate digital artefacts of their ongoing learning experiences.
  6. 6. The PLE follows a learner-centric approach, allowing the use of lightweight services and tools that belong to and are controlled by individual learners.
  7. 7. Rather than integrating different services into a centralised system, the PLE provides the learner with a variety of services and hands over control to her to select and use these services the way she deems fit.</li></li></ul><li>PLE characteristics<br /><ul><li>Supporting learners in planning and controlling their learning journey
  8. 8. Setting their own learning goals
  9. 9. Monitoring their progress towards achieving these goals
  10. 10. Managing their learning – both content and process
  11. 11. Enabling learners to aggregate resources and personalise their learning environment
  12. 12. Providing recommendations to learners about resources and other learners (‘study-buddies’)
  13. 13. Collaborating with others in the process of learning
  14. 14. Providing support to learners for community building and collaborative activities
