    Ed, ASM is *not* LVM. It wasn't designed to replace LVM in the first case and it's been quite good at it. Lots of customers demanded new features in ASM to replace universal volume managers and that's the reason behind introduction of ADVM and ACFS - customer demand. When it comes to ADVM and ACFS, I believe there is a long way to go so if you consider ADVM as replacement for LVM - then it's still a baby.
