CCTE-Cin-UFPE amadeus.cin.ufpe.br Unsafe Social Globe Para o antropólogo Otávio Velho, elite brasileira quis ser "mais moderna que os inventores da modernidade" , um recurso de distinção social; agora, ele afirma, as coisas começam a mudar RAFAEL CARIELLO DA REPORTAGEM LOCAL "Por que pretendemos ser mais modernos que os supostos modernos, aqueles que inventaram a modernidade?” A questão, proposta pelo antropólogo Otávio Velho, 65, professor emérito do Museu Nacional, da UFRJ (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro), pode servir para amarrar boa parte dos artigos reunidos em seu novo livro, "Mais Realistas do que o Rei - Ocidentalismo, Religião e Modernidades Alternativas. Parte da resposta é que no Brasil, como em vizinhos latino-americanos, foram construídas "modernidades de redoma", ele diz, que serviam ao final para distinguir e estabelecer hierarquias sociais . Resultado de resto oposto ao objetivo manifesto da modernidade, que seria o do estabelecimento da igualdade entre os indivíduos e da impessoalidade da lei. (...) A novidade, para o antropólogo, é que por toda parte essa "modernidade de redoma" parece apresentar sinais de crise, e as distinções já não são tão seguras .
