  • Background and Experience
    • After obtaining his Masters Degree in Operations Research from Columbia University, Alex started his career at Royal Insurance in the actuarial department completing the first 5 parts of the CAS exam series while working on the corporate model and personal lines ratemaking.
    • He left Royal to join Johnson & Higgins where he advised client executives and clients performing statistical analyses including loss and IBNR forecasts, modeling of aggregate loss distributions, cost allocations, and captive feasibility studies for Fortune 1000 size companies. During this time he obtained the Associate in Risk Management designation.
    • After 5 years, Alex transferred to the NY Casualty Department, obtaining a NYS brokers license. He used his actuarial skills while learning coverage to structure, negotiate, and place complex traditional and alternative risk insurance programs for companies in manufacturing, sports & entertainment, higher education, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, mining, medical products, telecommunications, real estate, consumer products, financial services, and home fuel delivery. During this time Alex completed the Lloyds Overseas Broker Training course in London.
    • J&H was acquired by Marsh in 1997 and Alex continued as a senior casualty broker successfully placing the first integrated risk program by Marsh’s NY RM Casualty Department.
    • He joined the national Casualty Practice group in 2000 coordinating networks of subject matter experts in integrated risk, captives, loss portfolio transfers, collateral alternatives, product recall and warranty.
    • Alex represented the Casualty Practice on Marsh’s Innovation Council where he developed a process for identifying emerging risks from publicly available information and matching them to solutions.
    • He was also responsible for developing, delivering and monitoring learning activities, obtaining CE instructor certification in most states. Alex liaised with the Learning department and outside consultants to develop skill based colleague competency assessments and audited Marsh offices to ensure compliance with best practices.
    • In November, 2004, Alex joined the project team that successfully responded to a complaint by the NY Attorney General saving the company.
    • Most recently, he served as knowledge manager creating and launching the Casualty Practice site, one of the most successful on the new Marsh intranet.
