Learning Week: NON DIAMO I NUMERI (experimental) Theatre and Mathematics Non residential training Interviewee Valentina Colorni

The training path
Theatric Activities:
improving mathematic reasoning
improvise with students for generating ideas for a play dialogue
write the play script
define students roles (actors, light technician, sound technician, etc…)
acting on the scene (bypassing motivational barriers)
Traditional didactical activities:
2 hours a day of mathematics with their teachers
An external tutor from ELEA (the financing institution) monitors the whole process

The organizative process

Positive aspects
good capacity of concretizing scientific arguments in the scenes
maintain strong separation among different roles (ex: scientific expert must not intervene in the theatrical process and vice versa)
moving the attention of young people far away from their problem (mathematics) towards another aspect (theatre)
built strong relationship with teachers that take part to the training
Future Make the experience not only for motivational recovery but also for content recovery
Points of attention
too rigidity in programme modifications. Maybe because the training has been experimental the first programme version couldn’t be modify following the students/teachers necessities
if is possible better to have the same tutor for the whole period (during this experience he/she change sometime)
