  • Hi everyone. Welcome to today’s session, which will cover. My name is Sonya Hansen and I’ll be kicking us off today. This session will be followed up with the third and final session of this series on September 18. That session will feature a presentation from Eric Schmidt a Solutions Architect on Google’s Cloud Engineering team where he’ll discuss how they build big and fast semantic pipelines. More on that later.
    First, I want to kickoff with some basic housekeeping items.

    All lines have been placed into a listen only mode for this presentation to reduce background noise. Of course, we welcome your questions during the event and have reserved time at the end of the presentation to address some of the questions we receive.   • Before we jump into live examples of methods one can use in practice, we should consider some applications that are already employing AI services. Indeed, many household names today are heavily relying on extracting structured information from largely untapped data sources.
  • Taboola: recommendation engines, using language processing and image recognition to drive content recommendation after e.g., reading an article
    Statisticians/data science: using structured data to discover trends and significant effects in data, making actionable recommendations in many contexts
    Amazon Fire: using computer vision and text to provide product recommendations based on image inputs
    AdTheorent powers a predictive real-time bidding engine for advertisers. They use NLP to deliver highly relevant ads to target markets. They’ve seen a 200% increase in CTR with the implementation of NLP.
    Simply Measured: Provides intelligent analytics for marketers who want a multi-channel view of consumer activity and campaign performance. Uses NLP to power their analytics which they then put into visualizations for customers.
    Google Dataflow: providing infrastructure necessary to host and investigate large datasets (uses BigQuery, SQL environment), useful for unlocking insights and patterns in data*** Mention that this isn’t an AI service, simply a toolbox that can be e.g., integrated with AI services

    Yes, you could build it; but, consider the cost!
