      • Validate Level of Experience Meets PMI Requirements
        • If not, work towards attaining these requirements:
          • With Bachelor’s Degree: 4,500 hours over 3 years
          • Without Degree: 7,500 hours over 5 years
          • 35 Hours of educational classroom experience

      • Send in PMI Application
        • Don’t underestimate the time it takes to gather past history
        • Some of the following resources may help jog your memory as to projects, dates, etc.
          • email
          • Planner pages
          • Calendars
          • Project plans & files
          • Contractor invoices
          • Resume
        • Remember, you need to go far enough back in your career history to cover the minimum number of months and hours for experience

      • Study Group Preparation
        • Preparation and familiarization with the concepts is key!
        • Be prepared to discuss and understand each concept and ask questions

      • Attend Study Group Sessions
        • Create a charter that each group member commits to by signing
        • Have each group member present at least one PMBOK area
        • Create study group schedule and distribute early so each group member knows what area they are presenting and when
        • Hook up with at least one group member so that you have a “study buddy”
        • End each study group session with a quiz
        • Plan on each study group session lasting 2-3 hours

      • Post Study Group Review
        • Go through the section again while the information is still fresh
        • Ask your “study buddy” or others in the group to explain areas you don’t understand (this helps them, too!)
        • Go through the questions in Thomas, Rita and Ward for the section
      • Accumulate/Create/Memorize "Brain Dump”
        • At the start of the exam, you can write down anything you can remember … this is your “brain dump”

      • Quiz Yourself Daily
        • Find good sources for questions (see our pix below)
        • If you are able to get at least the percentages correct below consistently on these tests, you are probably ready to pass the exam!
          • IWANNA B. APMP - 95-100%
          • Rita - 95-100%
          • Thomas - 85%
          • Ward - 70%

      • Schedule Exam
        • Must have “authorized to test” letter from PMI
        • Plan to take the exam within 1 month after study group ends
        • Be aware that your exam date could be up to 6 weeks out depending on availability at the test center so plan accordingly

      • Intense Self-Directed Study
        • For each PMBOK area:
          • Review any study group notes you may have
          • Review the PMBOK
          • Review Rita
          • Review Thomas
          • Review Ward
        • Review/memorize all formulas
        • Review/memorize “brain dump” so well that you can write it from memory!
      • Pass the Exam!!!
      • Begin Obtaining PDUs!

        • The Ward book (PMP Exam: Practice Test and Study Guide, 4th Edition) - you can order at the PMI bookstore http://www.pmibookstore.org/productdetail.asp?SessionID=E87E3FD0CE3C2C6784&productid=4243 (the 4th edition is current)
        • Principles of Project Management (we did not use but some have found helpful) - you can order at the PMI bookstore http://www.pmibookstore.org/productdetail.asp?SessionID=E87E3FD0CE3C2C6784&productid=2820
        • And don't forget the PMBOK !!! You will receive it when you join PMI . The savings on the exam are worth the cost of joining ... and don't forget to choose the local chapter, too!
