  • Social text Dashboard 3.0 Social text People Social text Workspace
    • This presentation highlights how Valerie Parise, the CMO at Ryker Solar Panel, uses Socialtext to:
    • Track and manage the information and items that require her attention
    • Collaboratively create and share information with her colleagues
    • Discover information and people that can help Valerie with her business objectives
  • Valerie is the Chief Marketing Officer at Ryker Solar Power. This is her profile page.
    • Profiles display contact information such as job title, email addresses, phone numbers, manger, etc.
    • Additionally, Socialtext Profiles display instant messaging IDs, and links to blogs and popular social network communities.
    • These are the people Valerie has chosen to follow.
    • When you follow someone, Socialtext keeps you up to date with the actions they are taking, such as: updating pages, posting comments, or adding people to their social network.
    • Tags allow you to discover specific attributes about someone, such as: projects they are working on, languages they speak, hobbies, or skills and areas of expertise.
    • Workspaces shows you the list of wikis that both you and the person who’s profile you are viewing are both members of.
  • Updates provides a stream of Valerie’s activities: editing pages, adding comments, adding tags to pages or people, and additions and removals to her social network.
    • The main navigation menu provides Valerie easy access to:
    • The People she is following
    • The Workspaces is a member of
    • And Home takes her to her Socialtext Dashboard
  • Valerie’s Dashboard is her personal home page, customized to display both internal and external content which is important to her.
  • The Workspaces she is a member of are also automatically displayed on the dashboard.
    • Valerie’s Dashboard is made up of a series of widgets.
    • There are many types of widgets, both from Socialtext as well as 3 rd party developers.
    • Any page from a workspace can be displayed inside a widget.
    • Here Valerie has chosen a page from the Marketing workspace, which contains information about the traffic to their web site.
  • A Google Search widget, and RSS feed reader widget, help Valerie stay informed.
  • The My Conversations widget allows Valerie to keep track of the recent edits, comments, and tags related to the pages she is participating in. The My Colleagues widget is similar, but instead displays all activities related to the people that Valerie is following.
  • In addition to components from the Socialtext platform, Dashboard also supports adding thousands of Google gadgets.
  • To help manage the items that require her attention, Valerie has added a page from the Marketing workspace which displays the current status of the various marketing projects at Ryker. From here she can easily access the People and Pages involved.
  • Clicking on the link takes her to the Press Release page. By working in a shared page instead of email, all comments and ideas are collected in a central place.
  • Valerie can now Tag the page, indicating that she approves, and it is ready to go to the Press.
  • With her work done on the press release, Valerie can now turn her attention to other marketing tasks. To go to the Central Page of the Marketing workspace, Valerie clicks on the workspace title in the Navigation bar.
  • The Central Page of a Socialtext Workspace enables members to share important information, useful links, or anything else they would like to appear each time a member accesses the workspace. Valerie and her team use the Central Page to provide quick access to project status, leads targets, upcoming events, and more.
  • Valerie would like to see Ryker Solar Power start to leverage more of today’s “2.0” tools, such as blogs, Facebook, Linked In, Youtube, Twitter, etc. To start, she needs to find out who at Ryker has skills in these new technologies. To do this, she returns to her Socialtext Dashboard by clicking Home at the top left of the page.
  • Valerie clicks “Add Content” to add a new widget to her personal Dashboard.
  • Valerie is now presented with a catalog of available widgets from both Socialtext, as well as third party vendors such as Google, Flickr, Wikipedia, MapQuest, and others. She chooses the People Tag cloud.
  • This adds a tag cloud to Valerie’s Socialtext Dashboard, which visually displays the tags that are applied to profiles in Socialtext People. Here Valerie can easily find tags that match what she is looking for, such as Blogger. Clicking on a tag, displays a list of all the Profiles that contain that tag.
  • Now Valerie can discover the people who have the skills she is looking for. She can choose to contact them, add them to her social network, or view the activities they have been involved in, simply by viewing their profile.
