  • 2. What are landforms? • Landforms are the natural shapes of the Earth’s surface. • Landforms can be on land (landforms of continental relief) and in water too (landforms of coastal relief)
  • 3. What is a plain?
  • 4. Plain A plain is a flat area on Earth’s surface.
  • 5. What is a plateau?
  • 6. Plateau A plateau is a flat area higher than the land around it.
  • 7. What is a hill?
  • 8. Hill A hill is a small elevation in the Earth's surface
  • 9. What is a mountain?
  • 10. Mountain A mountain is a place on Earth’s surface that is much higher than the land around it.
  • 11. What is a valley?
  • 12. Valley A valley is a lowland area between higher lands such as mountains.
  • 13. What is a depression?
  • 14. Depression A depression is an area that is lower than its surroundings.
  • 15. What is a canyon?
  • 16. Canyon A canyon is a deep valley with very steep sides
  • 17. What is a peninsula?
  • 18. Peninsula A peninsula is a body of land that is surrounded by water on three sides
  • 19. What is an island?
  • 20. Island An island is land that is completely surrounded by water
  • 21. What is an archipelago?
  • 22. Archipelago An archipelago is a group or chain of islands together in a sea or ocean.
  • 23. What is a coast?
  • 24. Coast A coast is the area where the ocean touches the land.
  • 25. What is a lake?
  • 26. Lake A lake is water that is completely surrounded by land.
  • 27. What is a river?
  • 28. River A river is a long flowing body of water
  • 29. What is a cape?
  • 30. Cape A cape is a pointed piece of land that sticks out into a sea
  • 31. What is a gulf?
  • 32. Gulf A gulf is a part of the ocean that is partly surrounded by land (it is usually larger than a bay).
  • 33. What is a bay?
  • 34. Bay A bay is a body of water that is partly enclosed by land (and is usually smaller than a gulf).
  • 35. What is a strait or channel?
  • 36. Strait or channel A strait is a narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water
