Asus MeMO Pad

  1. 1. Asus MeMO Pad[imaioVideo v=1]The 7-inch device is being billed as a cheaper alternative to the firm’s Google-branded Nexus 7and a competitor to the Acer B1-A71.Asus MeMO Pad budget tabletAsus has announced a new entry-level tablet, the Memo Pad tablet just after CES 2013. Thetablet looks a lot like the very popular Nexus 7 but comes with an inferior configurationcompared to Google’s device and will target emerging markets. The device runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, is powered by a single core VIA WM8950system-on-chip clocked at 1GHz, comes with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 1-megapixelfront-facing camera, a microSD card slot, Wi-Fi, 5GB of online storage courtesy of Asus, aheadphone socket, a microUSB port plus a 7in 1,024×600 pixels resolution. It will go on sale in the US and in other territories towards the end of the month. Acer’s IconiaB1 model will also land end of January. The US model will arrive with Hulu Plus, Netflix, HBOGo as well as some Asus applications like MyPainter or MyBitast; expect the Memo Pad toappear in flesh at the Mobile World Congress end of February when Asus will have a majorlaunch party.Obviously, the device doesn’t have a fighting chance against the Google Nexus 7 tablet andwill struggle against the B1 which has a dual-core processor. Asus hasn’t confirmed when andat what price the Memo Pad will launch in the UK.Available in white, grey or pink, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-running slate features a WM8950processor single-core processor, a Mali 400 GPU, 1GB of RAM, a 1-megapixel front-facingcamera and a 1024 x 600 display.Asus is targeting the emerging markets with its latest slate, selling it for as little as $99 (£61) insome territories. The tablet comes with Google Play pre-installed as well as the full crop of Android apps, butAsus has thrown in some software of its own as well as 5GB of online storage through itsWebStorage service. The MeMO Pad has been tipped for launch in the US in April, but a UK release is unconfirmed. 1/2
