  2. 2. 9th December 2012 Christmas 2012 [2/5] No one likes me anymore : (Matt 1:19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
  3. 3. Mary followed God• She was faithful & obedient• Not much of a ‘Betrothal’What to say to her family?Joseph planned to divorce• Not much of a WeddingRushed and ‘on the quiet’• Not much of a HoneymoonTravelling to BethlehemEight months pregnant
  4. 4. Luke 1: 26-27In the sixth month ofElizabeth’s pregnancy, Godsent the angel Gabriel toNazareth, a town inGalilee, 27 to a virginpledged to be married to aman named Joseph, adescendant of David. Thevirgin’s name was Mary.
  5. 5. Luke 1: 39-40At that time Mary got readyand hurried to a town in thehill country of Judea, whereshe entered Zechariah’shome and greetedElizabeth. When Elizabethheard Mary’s greeting, thebaby leaped in herwomb, and Elizabeth wasfilled with the Holy Spirit.
  6. 6. Luke 1: 56 Mary stayed with Elizabethfor about three months andthen returned home.
  7. 7. Matthew 1: 18-19Mary was pledged to bemarried to Joseph, but beforethey came together, she wasfound to be pregnant throughthe Holy Spirit. 19 BecauseJoseph her husband wasfaithful to the law, and yetdid not want to expose her topublic disgrace, he had inmind to divorce her quietly.
  8. 8. Matthew 1: 24-25When Joseph woke up, hedid what the angel of theLord had commanded himand took Mary home as hiswife. 25 But he did notconsummate their marriageuntil she gave birth to a son.And he gave him the nameJesus.
  9. 9. Luke 2: 1&4-5Caesar Augustus issued adecree that a census shouldbe taken …4 So Joseph also went upfrom the town of Nazarethin Galilee to Judea, toBethlehem … because hebelonged to the house andline of David. 5 He wentthere to register with Mary
  10. 10. Us following Jesus• It can be & will be difficult… don’t be surprised if it is!• God is still at work… even if it feels like a battle• He doesn’t let go of us… even if we feel its over• But … it will get better… just keep going & trusting!
