    2. Have you ever been in your car, at the mall, or outside somewhere and wanted to know right away whether there was a traffic jam ahead, where your spouse was, or how to find the closest bakery?
Location-based services, now seen as a key differentiator by wireless carriers and their subscribers, offer all that, and more.
    3. What is the location based service?
      • Location based Service:
      • Location-based services and advertising allow consumers to receive services and advertising based on their geographic location. For example, businesses can provide information about traffic, restaurants, retail stores, travel arrangements, or automatic teller machines based on the consumer’s location at a particular moment in time. Such services can be provided in response to a consumer’s manual input of his or her location information into the handset or by using so-called “auto-location” technology to track the location of the consumer automatically.

    8. GoCart
      • Technology Used : Phone’s built in camera to scan the barcode of any product and the use of GPS to locate nearby stores.
      • Functionality :
      • Search for best prices over the internet as well as nearby local stores
      • Organize the products scanned into wish lists
      • Create price alerts to help monitor price drops
      • GPS is used to obtain the current location of the store and thereby find best deals over the internet as well as nearby local stores
      • Users can also read online reviews.
    9. Snapshots
      • Price Alerts inform the user when the price of a certain product drops within your range.
      • Alerts can be sent directly to your phone’s email inbox.
      • Products scanned can be stored into user defined categories.
      • These lists can further be shared with your friends on your social networking page using Google’s Open Social API.
    10. Locale
      • Locale automatically changes the phones settings based on conditions, such as location.
      • HOW IT WORKS : It basically creates situations, which specify conditions under which your settings should change.
      • Locations are created using an intuitive interface based on the maps API.
      • Provides a drag and drop interface.
      • Locations specified can also be reused by other applications.
      • Location, time and other conditions can be specified to trigger on a particular setting.
      • Location condition uses androids location API for high precision GPS positioning.
      • User can specify which settings to change once the conditions are met.
      • Settings include changing the Ringtone, volume, incoming call options, network options etc.
    11. Wertago
      • Find the hottest local venues, from pubs to clubs, with real-time ratings, tags, and reviews.
      • Current location is captured using the android’s GPS and based on that, the application generates a list of nearby nightclubs and party places.
      • See where friends arepartying
All night long, you can check out where your friends or other users are partying, so you never have to miss out on a good time.
      • Browse profiles, personalize your own, and meet new people
You can browse profiles and personalize your own, until you find someone that piques your interest.
      • Message, coordinate, and flirt all night long
Send messages to other users, to coordinate a meet up, or to say hello to someone you'd like to meet.
    12. PedNav
      • Select Daily Activities using organized listings.
      • Application also allows to specify time constraints for each of these activities.
      • Provides the most suitable public transportation and/or walking directions to each destination.
      • Asks the user to select venues and enter time constraints.
      • PedNav then creates step-by-step itinerary, with public transit and walking directions.
      • Allows user to browse for venues/places by address or the current GPS location.
    13. Mobile Fotos
      • Allows photos to be tagged by the location at which it is clicked.
      • Location is obtained by using the smart phone’s GPS.
      • Geo- tagged photos can further be uploaded to any website.
      • Initially when location is acquired the estimated accuracy will be displayed. However the accuracy may improve as more readings are taken.
    14. Modifications to Mobile Fotos App
Automatically organizes the photos you take with your phone into albums based on the location where the photos were taken.
Photos can be saved as public or private.
You can view and share your photos by selecting them from within an organized list or pull up a map to look at collections visually.
      • Record Your Own track and race
      •  Define your own race track, and at the same time record your own race !
      • Define the starting point of your racing track and click on record.
      • The phone will accurately capture your every movement using GPS technology.
      • Set checkpoints to define the key parts of your track. Your future opponents will have to pass them and get information on their intermediate time.
      •  Share your race.
      • Upload the track so as to let others try and compete the lap time you have set up.
      • The opponent can race on that track even without you being present and have his results uploaded once he is done.
      • Accept the challenge
      • You can also see the various tracks set up by any of your friends and on clicking the challenge button the app will load up all the tracks available near your current, real location.
      • You can pick an opponent, start the race and give it your best.
