Mr. Borden was found dead on the first floor in the sitting room and Mrs. Borden was upstairs in the bedroom
Andrew Borden was a rich businessman who owned most of Fall River. He had three girls but one, Sarah died when she was only one-year-old. Had a 300,000 dollar estate that would be left to his daughters upon his death. Abby Borden was his second wife and she bore no children. Their marriage was not based on love, but rather convenience. She became the step mother of Andrew’s two living children; Emma and Lizzie.
This axe was determined to be the murder weapon. Both of the victims received several blows to their heads and bodies. This hatchet was found in the barn Andrew had 10 blows to the head and Abby had 19.
The youngest daughter of Andrew and the stepmother Abby Lived with her family Lived a simple life of a rich girl at the time: she visited with friends, did charity, taught Sunday-school class at church. She had at least 6000 dollars to her name at the time of the murder (testified her sister) She was indifferent towards the murder according to accusers. Alibi- She was in the barn looking for iron sinkers for a fishing line Probable Cause-reasonable grounds
