BOOKS ON WHEELS Offers delivery of library materials to the homebound citizens of Oskaloosa. Homebound citizens are those living within the city limits of Oskaloosa who cannot get to the library due to illness, injury or handicap. Homebound citizens living in private homes and apartments, as well as assisted living/nursing facilities, are eligible for homebound services.
BOOKS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEERSResponsibilities: Interview a patron to determine areas of interest. Select materials appropriate for a patron. Check out materials using homebound patron’s library card. Keep accurate records of materials borrowed by patron. Deliver materials to homebound patron. Return materials to library on time.
BOOKS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEERSQualifications: An interest in serving the needs of homebound patrons. A valid driver’s license and access to an insured car. The ability to locate library materials. The ability to keep accurate borrowing records. The ability to work independently, with little to no supervision.
BOOKS ON WHEELS VOLUNTEERS Volunteers will deliver requested books and other materials to a home on a regular basis. Normally, visits are scheduled every two weeks. Volunteers will discuss delivery schedules with each patron. Volunteers take an average of two hours to complete a delivery schedule for a patron.
VOLUNTEER RIGHTS The right to volunteer in a safe home. The right to determine if a home is safe. The right to choose to deliver to a home. The right to terminate the volunteer arrangement (advance notice is appreciated).
