    Good&Bad Poster - Presentation Transcript

    1. Good and Bad Posters
    2. The Good
    3.
    4. Visual Components
      • Centralization of important points of focus. Eg nicole kidman, movie title. All the unimportant points left to the right.
      • All fonts are in the same type to create constant focus on all the characters in the film
      • Title however is boxed up to differentiate itself
      • picture looks harmonious
      • immediate mental relation between the red hat and MARGOT
      • separation of the 2 women might give viewers a clue on the story plot
      • background is also blurred to bring focus upon the characters
      • use of distance to emphasize on characters’ role importance
    5. Colours
      • choice of white background and minimal colors used to shift focus onto the characters
      • even for characters, lighter shades of color (cool colors) are used to make the red hat (warm color) stand out further
      • all text used are in black, except the name of the main character MARGOT (notice the corresponding red hat she is wearing)
      • color ratio is handled well by determining the sizes of the humans which are actually contributing the colors
      • Type is in black to bring maximum contrast
    6. Gestalt Principles
      • Chunking of information (the actor’s names)
      • Law of simplicity. Information is broken down to simple forms.
      • Figure & Ground
        • Lady in fore front (use of distance)
        • other main characters at the back
        • Obeys the laws. Size of figure against background, contrast btwn figure & background, details – figure has more details.
      • Proximity
        • quite clear because of the plot of the movie!
      • Similarity
        • Clear groupings
        • Nicole + Jack >< Jennifer
    7. Gestalt Principles
      • Continuity
        • similar to proximity, the grouping of the women suggests the plot development
      • Closure
        • invisible border framed by the limits of the words
        • wall in between the 2 women
    8. The Bad
    9. Visual Components
      • type is not centralized
      • Type competes for attention with the image
      • Too wordy
      • Different and unstandardize fonts
      • Name of the actors eclipse / same priority as movie and is undifferentiated
      • too many things happening in the poster
      • Message of the poster is unconveyed
      • Additional image under the word remember is confusing the viewer
      • The center image is framed
      • Presence of advertising in the poster
    10. Colours
      • red type eclipses the msg of the poster
      • Then after that there’s a blue type and a black type
      • Far too much color in the poster causing a diffusion of the msg
    11. Gestalt Principles
      • Law of organisation - misused
      • Law of simplicity. Complicated poster
      • Figure & Ground
        • no figure and no ground?
      • Proximity
        • quite clear because of the plot of the movie!
      • Similarity
        • Very unclear groupings
    12. Gestalt Principles
      • Continuity
        • no continuity
      • Closure
        • no closure
