    3. What is ‘slang’?
      • Slang is informal language (as opposed to standard English)
      • Slang, like other types of language, changes over time
      • Some words, which were originally slang, are now part of standard English

      • Students compile a list of their own slang with definitions.
      • Are the examples of slang words that you think should be included in the dictionary?
      • When would they be more likely to use a slang word in place of standard English?
      • Are their examples words that would be used locally or across the globe?

    23. Final Project
      • Choose 3 scenes from an American TV episode (or Movie) and analyze the use of slang or hip hop language in the dialogues.
      • Discuss: In what ways do you think the usage of slang and hip hop language affect Taiwanese EFL students?
      • Discuss: Should non-standard English be banned in the classroom? Why or why not?
    24. Final Project
      • Class is divided into 4 groups. The first two groups will present on 1/3. The last two groups (Groups 3 and 4) will present on 1/10.
      • You should submit a CD that contains the following on the day of your presentation:
        • Paper: Written analysis of your presentation
        • Powerpoint material
    25. Final Project
      • The oral presentation should be in the following order:
        • Introduction- provide outline of your presentation and Synopsis/Brief description of your chosen TV episode/Movie
        • 1st scene
        • 2nd scene
        • 3rd scene
        • Conclusion: summarize main points that were presented
    26. Final Project
      • Attendance will be checked on 1/3 and 1/10. 10 points will be deducted for each absence.
      • Your oral presentation and the quality of your written analysis should make up for your final grade.
