    Learning Units - Presentation Transcript

    3. collection of content* [ *material created by tools in Blackboard – files, links etc ]
    4. option to present materials sequentially
    5. why?
    6. present learning materials as an achievable task: in bite-sized chunks
    7. organise content (smaller ‘list’ of files than an entire Blackboard page)
    8. follows constructivist notions of pedagogy [ building on prior learning activities ]
    9. allow students to quickly scan the related activities/content involved in a task
    10. how?
    11. create a learning unit, and place items* inside [ * new, or existing Blackboard content – files, links etc ]
    12. create a Learning Unit
    13. go to the area in Blackboard where the Learning Unit is to be 1 located p e t s
    14. click ‘Edit View’ 2 p e t s
    15. choose ‘Learning Unit’ from the Select pulldown menu 3 p e t s
    16. click ‘Go’ 4 p e t s [ to the right of the pulldown menu ]
    17. give the Learning Unit a Name 5 p e t s
    18. in the ‘Text’ area, provide a description or instructions for 6students p e t s
    19. ✹ nal) (optio set ‘Enforce sequential viewing...’ to ‘Yes’ 7 p e t s [ forcing students to view items in order, one after another ]
    20. ✹ nal) (optio set ‘Open in new window’ to ‘Yes’ 8 p e t s[ to present the contents in a separate browser window ]
    21. click ‘Submit’ 9 p e t s
    22. click ‘OK’ 0 1 p e t s
    23. put existing content* into a Learning Unit [ * material you have already uploaded to Blackboard ]
    24. move individual items* into the Learning Unit [ * links, items, tests etc – but NOT folders ]
    25. locate the desired item to move into the Learning Unit 1 p e t s
    26. click ‘Edit View’ 2 p e t s
    27. click ‘Copy’ 3 p e t s
    28. click ‘Browse’ 4 p e t s
    29. in the new window that appears, locate* and click on the 5 Learning Unit’s name p e t s* use the ‘+’ icon to open up areas / folders
    30. ✹ nal) (optio to move (rather than copy), set ‘Remove item after copy’ to “Yes” 6 p e t s
    31. click ‘Submit’ 7 p e t s
    32. click ‘OK’ 8 p e t s
    33. adding new content into a Learning Unit
    34. create/upload items within the Learning Unit
    35. click on the Learning Unit’s title (it’s name) 1 p e t s
    36. click ‘Edit View’* 2 p e t s* if this is not visible, you cannot put content here
    37. choose which type of content you wish to upload 3 p e t s[ ‘File’ automatically displays/downloads a file ]
    38. complete the details for the item – especially some descriptive Text* 4 p e t s[ * define what students should do with this item ]
    39. click ‘Submit’ 5 p e t s
    40. click ‘OK’ 6 p e t s[ you should now see the item you just created ]
