    Creating Online Glossaries in Blackboard - Presentation Transcript

    1. Blackboard glossary tool providing a reference for subject specific terminology Blended Learning Advisor Academic Development Unit
    2. why?
    3. tutors = less repetition
    4. students = reference
    5. also a reference for: subject librarians learning support tutors international tutors
    6. how?
    7. ensure the glossary ‘tool’ is available to students to access – i.e. as a menu item
    8. 2 methods: add individual terms... or upload multiple terms
    9. individual terms...
    10. in the same area as the glossary, click ‘Control Panel’ ep 1 s t
    11. click ‘Glossary Manager’ ep 2 s t
    12. click ‘Add Term’ ep 3 s t
    13. complete the term and the definition ep 4 s t
    14. click ‘Submit’ ep 5 s t
    15. click ‘Add Another Term’ to enter further content ep 6 s t [ or click ‘OK’ to finish ]
    16. multiple terms...
    17. open Excel ep 1 s t
    18. create a new document ep 2 s t
    19. column A = term column B = definition ep 3 s t
    20. file > save* ep 4 s t * save as a .xls file (to be able to edit / reuse again later)
    21. file > save as... change the type/format to CSV* ep 5 s t * Comma Separated Values (to import into Blackboard)
    22. note: if definitions use punctuation (,.;: etc), save the file as ‘Text (Tab Delimited)’ .txt* * to prevent sentences being curtailed
    23. in Bb, go to the same area as the glossary, click ‘Control Panel’ ep 6 s t
    24. click ‘Glossary Manager’ ep 7 s t
    25. click ‘Upload Glossary’ ep 8 s t
    26. click ‘Browse’, and locate the .csv file ep 9 s t
    27. define whether to add to or replace existing p 1 0 content s t e
