  • 2. Arakan Human Rights and Development Organisation (AHRDO)
            • A non-profit independent organisation
            • Founded on October 9, 2011
            • By a group of Arakanese individuals
  • 3. The Main Aims of Forming AHRDO
    • Monitor and document
        • all human rights, environmental and cultural abuses in Arakan State
    • Promote the development of the Arakanese people
        • through education in/outside Arakan (i.e. Thailand, Malaysia, etc.)
    • Inform the local and international communities about:
        • the human rights abuses in Arakan State
        • the impacts of development projects
        • (e.g. Shwe Gas Pipelines Project, Kaladan Project, etc.)
  • 4. Vision of AHRDO
    • AHRDO envisages development in Arakan:
        • which benefits the least advantaged people
        • protects ecosystems
        • mitigates negative environmental impacts
        • respects cultural and historic sites
      • These principles will be best upheld within a free and full democratic Federal Union of Burma that respects human rights, equality and justice.  
  • 5. Mission of AHRDO
        • educate and inform
        • local and international
        • communities
        • about social, economic, political
        • and cultural oppression
        • faced by Arakanese people
        • due to government development
        • projects  
  • 6. Objectives of AHRDO
    • Raise awareness
        • within and without Arakan State
        • through lobbying and advocacy efforts
        • by informing the regional and international communities
        • of the social, political, cultural and economic oppression,
        • environmental degradation, and human rights violations
        • as a consequence of infrastructure projects
        • (such as natural resource extraction projects)
        • by the Burmese government and its project partners
    • 2) Train Arakanese activists in lobbying and advocacy
    • 3) Forge networks with human rights and development
    • organisations worldwide
  • 7. Activities of AHRDO
    • Publications
    • Public education
    • Internal and external advocacy
    • Co-operation and co-ordination with other organisations
    • Networking and alliance building
    • Awareness raising and mobilisation
    • Direct public actions (i.e. demonstrations, etc.)

    • Protection and preservation of natural resources and ecosystems in Arakan State  
  • 8. Cyclone Giri (Oct. 2010): One Year On
    • First AHRDO report:
      • situation in Arakan State before, during and after Cyclone Giri
      • to draw international attention to the ongoing need for assistance to the affected Arakanese community

      • deprived of social, civil, environmental,
      • political, economic and cultural rights
      • to give a platform to activists fighting for
