  • In the electronics industry category – which is where FORTUNE magazine places us – we were just behind GE which was ranked second in the overall survey – and we’re ahead of Sony, a well-known consumer brand that was added to the category this year.
  • To make it easier for customers to both understand and do business with us, each of Emerson’s 60 plus divisions have been aligned with one of the newly defined Emerson brands that better define Emerson’s face to the customer. This chart depicts the Emerson brands, whose identities support an “overbrand” framework. This means the “bigger brand” is being used in a predictable and consistent manner with the smaller brands to define their relationship. Overbranding is frequently used for brand portfolio management in acquisition environments to drive smooth integration of companies. It also allows for economies of scale in operations, communications and management. It provides a consistent “trustmark” across a broad array of companies that allows customers to easily understand and remember the values the companies have in common. This architecture allows brand equity to be transferred to and from the Emerson corporate brand and the division brands. Most importantly, it is a brand architecture that reinforces divisional cooperation. The Emerson brands express our core competencies and are organized by our areas of expertise. They have been created for more relevant marketing messaging to our major customer audiences.
