Journalist and patriot was born inMilan on September 20, 1833.In 1866 he started writing for thenewspaper the "Century". Inthose years severalassociations of pacifist naturewere born in Europe with theaim to establish a Charter ofArbitration that would resolveinternational conflicts byrecourse to law and not toviolence.
He contributed to the creationof the "Society for Peaceand Justice “ and passedfrom the activity of ajournalist to that of speakerof pacifist ideas.In 1887 he founded "TheLombard Union for Peace"and the "Company for Peaceand International Justice." In1890 he founded the"Almanac for peace," anewspaper that reportedfrequent updates onNational and InternationalCongress on peace.
In 1895 he was designated asrepresentative of theItalian Commission of theInternational PeaceBureau. In 1898 hefounded the magazine "International Life" and hisinvestigation and hiscommitment took on adecidedly cosmopolitan airthat introduced him intothe European backgroundcreating the conditions forthe award of the NobelPrize for peace.
In 1904 Moneta was electedpresident of the FirstNational Congress of Peacein Turin and Vice-Presidentat the 13thWorld Congressfor Peace in Boston.In 1906 he organized a"Pavilion for peace," at theWorld Fair in Milan duringwhich he led as presidentthe15th InternationalCongress on Peace ..
In 1907 he was appointed Chairmanof the Board of Directors of theFederation of the Italian Companyfor Peace .For his meritorious workand activism against the war andfor his numerous actions to thecreation of an International PeaceMovement on December 10,1907he received the Nobel Prize forpeace obtained for “hiscommitment and the foundation ofLombard Union for Peace andArbitration "; prize which was auniversal recognition of hisnumerous initiatives for peace andfor the Civil Progress of mankind.
In 1908 he went to Norway where inthe hall of the Institute for theNobel Prize of Oslo he held aconference on “ Peace and Law inthe Italian Tradition “,where heintroduced his idea on peacebased on Disarmament;International Arbitration;Federation..On February 10, 1918 ErnestoTeodoro Moneta died , precursorof pacifism, a man who tirelesslypreaching the idea of a universalpacifism , had consecrated all hislife to the country, to humanity, toCivil harmony, to peace andbrotherhood among peoples.
