  • The term BLOG comes from the word WEBLOG. The first blogging site( called BLOGGER ) was created in 1999, and is still one of the most popular sites.
  • 1. You have something to say and blogs provide a place to say it. 2. You can promote yourself, your business, a product or a service. 3. Many blogs are written to help people get through some type of health related problem. 4. If you’re trying to show that you’re an expert in a field, blogging can be a great tool to help you do that. 5. You can start a blog to find people who share your thoughts and opinions. 6. Many blogs are written to attempt to share thoughts about the political arena, the environment, and social issues. Many of these are written to inform people about important issues. 7. Many blogs contain the most up to date information in specific fields. Reading these blogs can be educational. 8. You can share family stories, photos and videos by posting them on a blog. It can be a great way to keep up with those people you don’t see often. 9. There are a lot of ways to make money on your blog. You can have advertisements – you get a small amount each time a viewer clicks on each ad. You can have links to products that are for sale. You get paid for getting the person from your blog to the sales site. Some bloggers make money by reviewing products for companies and posting the reviews on their blogs. You can write an e-book and sell it on your blog. Some bloggers add a donation button to their blogs. You ask people to help to keep the blog alive by using clever tag lines like “If you like this blog, buy the blogger a cup of coffee.” 10. Many blogs are written just for fun. If you have a passion about something and you enjoy talking about it, you can write down your feelings and share them. Some people
  • Maybe you want to write about a few topics…..books and movies……knitting, crocheting and sewing…..gardens, books and travel
  • In general, Blogger is the easiest to get up and get started; Wordpress is the easiest to customize and expand (if you want to expand your blog’s features); and Tumblr works best for photo blogs and picturesBlogger has recently been bought by Google, so if you have a gmail address and are worried about privacy, either use Worpdress or sign up for your Blogger account using a non-gmail address (like a yahoo email account)

  • What is a blog? blog/blôg/ Noun: A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis. Derived from the term ―weblog.‖ Verb: Add new material to or regularly update a blog.
  • How popular is blogging?In the late 90’s there were a few thousand blogs.
  • How many in 2012?Some sources say there are over 100 million blogs today, with over 10,000 new blogs created each day.
