  • 2. ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION An expression that may contain variables, constants, and operations. X + 2 X 2 + 9x - 3
  • 3. CONSTANT A value that does not change 5, 7, ½
  • 4. IDENTITY PROPERTY Of Multiplication A number or variable can be multiplied by one and the product does not change 5 • 1 = 5 X • 1 = x
  • 5. IDENTITY PROPERTY Of Addition A number or variable added to zero will result in the sum of the original value or variable 5 + 0 = 5 X + 0 = x
  • 6. Coefficient The multiplicative factor of a variable 9 x
  • 7. Like Terms Contains the same variables raised to the same power and can be simplified Examples: 9x 2 , 7x 2 , ½ x 2 Non-Examples: 9x 3 , 7x , ½ x 2
  • 8. Associative Property The addition or multiplication of a set of numbers is the same regardless of how the numbers are grouped. 2x + (3x – 5x) (2x + 3x) – 5x
  • 9. Commutative Property
    • Commutative Property of Addition states that changing the order of addends does not change the sum.
    • Commutative Property of Multiplication states that changing the order of factors does not change the product.
    5 • a = a • 5 5 + a = a + 5
  • 10. Distributive Property Distributive property eliminates parenthesis through multiplication x ( y + 2) = xy + 2 x
