    • What is Gatekeeping ?
      • The determination of what goes into the news broadcast
      • Regulates the flow of news
    • Who are the Gatekeepers ?
      • The gatekeeper is the person who decides what shall pass through the gate. Remember, there are lots of gate in the news proess.
      • Journalists, editors, producers, anchors,
    • Many gates? What are they?
      • Let’s look at an example
        • Some one thinks they have a story – they are the first gatekeeper – do they call the news station or not?
        • A journalist takes the call they decide if the story is newsworthy
        • Their editor hears the story decides to allow the journalist to explore it
        • The story is done, at the daily news meeting it is thrown in with all of the others stories – it competes with them
        • Based on the news values of each of the stories they are arranged in order for the telecast

      • It depends on a number of factors
        • News Values are the main criteria
