Passive Learning vs. Active Learning <ul><li>Passive Learning </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers or Professors who lectures and students take notes </li></ul><ul><li>Students only remembers 10% of what teachers say in class </li></ul><ul><li>Students are expected to absorb material </li></ul><ul><li>Active Learning </li></ul><ul><li>Students do activities during class time </li></ul><ul><li>Learning is more hands-on </li></ul><ul><li>Collaborates with &quot;other students” </li></ul><ul><li>Students remember 50% of material that is taught </li></ul>“ People cannot learn by having information pressed in their brains. Set attainable goals <ul><li>Other points of view </li></ul><ul><li>SMART </li></ul><ul><li>Specific: exactly what you want to accomplish </li></ul><ul><li>Measurable: be more detailed about your goal </li></ul><ul><li>Attainable: eliminate impossible goals and keep them at what you’re comfortable with </li></ul><ul><li>Relevant: set goal with a “big picture” in mind and a clear purpose (visualizing) </li></ul><ul><li>Time Bound: set goals that you actually have time to complete </li></ul><ul><li>Downing </li></ul><ul><li>DAPPS </li></ul><ul><li>Motivation comes with specific deadlines </li></ul><ul><li>Dated: Short-term goal- within a few months, Long-term goal- ranges within years </li></ul><ul><li>Achievable: Challenging realistic goals </li></ul><ul><li>Personal: your own goals not someone else </li></ul><ul><li>Positive: focus on what you want not negativity </li></ul><ul><li>Specific: keeps you from being fooled into believing you’ve achieved a goal when you haven’t </li></ul>
