GUIDELINES TO ENSURE SUCCESSFUL PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION <ul><li>Involve the right people in the planning process </li></ul><ul><li>Write down the planning information and communicate it widely </li></ul><ul><li>Goals should be SMART ( Specific, Measurable, Attainable , Realistic, Time) </li></ul><ul><li>Responsibility and deadline review </li></ul><ul><li>Note deviations from the plan and correct the plan </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluate planning process and the plan </li></ul><ul><li>Celebration of results </li></ul>

EFFECTIVE DELEGATION <ul><li>Delegate the whole task to one person </li></ul><ul><li>Select the right person </li></ul><ul><li>Clearly specify your preferred results </li></ul><ul><li>Delegate responsibility - assign the task, not the method to accomplish it </li></ul><ul><li>Get ongoing non-intrusive feedback about progress on the project </li></ul><ul><li>Maintain open communication </li></ul><ul><li>Evaluate and reward performance </li></ul>

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATIONS : HOW TO COMMUNICATE <ul><li>Stay focused </li></ul><ul><li>Listen carefully </li></ul><ul><li>Try to see the point of view of the others </li></ul><ul><li>Respond to criticism with understanding: Use “I” messages </li></ul><ul><li>Look for compromise </li></ul><ul><li>Remember that the goal of effective communication skills should be mutual understanding and finding a solution that pleases both parties, not ‘winning’ the argument or ‘being right’. </li></ul>
