    • During the great depression it was the women’s job to keep the family together; while the men tried to support the family financially
  3. Education
    • Instead on focusing on their careers and pursuing higher education women focused on keeping their family together
    • Many teachers worked for less or little pay in order to keep schools open (Sherrow)
  4. Workforce
    • Many women lost their jobs
    • Some were forced out into the working world in order to survive(users.tellurian.net)
    • Women lost jobs and stayed unemployed at almost double the rate of men(Depression and war)
    • Discrimination-Married working women were looked down upon because they were viewed as taking the men’s jobs away(users.tellurian.net)

    • The Family cohesion rested on their shoulders
    • Most social tasks diminished
    • “ Those who did no t get personal satisfaction from lives of sacrifice were labeled masculine”(Kessler)
    • Postponed having children and fewer of them, suvival was the main goal(Depress & War)
