  • In this presentation, we will discuss LinkedIn Statistics, Learn how to create profile, how to add connections, Easy way to send messages, how to use LinkedIn Signals, LinkedIn Answers, how to create LinkedIn Groups and Company page
  • LinkedIn is an online network of 150+ Million experienced professionals around the world. Of them 23% belong to age group of 18-24, 35% belong to age group of 25-34, the same percentage belong to age group of 35-54 and the rest 7% have 54+ age. Out of total users 58% are men and 42% are women.
  • On LinkedIn we try to be visible and professional, but on facebook we always play with our privacy settings.
  • When we join LinkedIn the first step we do is to create Profile, all registered users can view it, unless you made it to be a private page.
  • Your profile can list your education, recent and past work history, current and past projects, groups and associations.
  • Fill out your profile so that it is 100% complete – Everyone on LinkedIn is working to put their best foot forward…you should too! While creating profile, we need to keep in mind some important points, we know basic things, mean how to upload picture, how to make executive summary, and how to update education. A well organized profile plays an important role in SEO Ranking. To get high ranking in search engines, the first thing we must do is to customize public profile link, then customize Professional Headline and at last updated “Additional Information”.
  • This slide shows how to customize public profile link. Go to setting, select profile, then click on Edit your Public Profile… by this a new window will be opened.
  • When this window will appear selection the option “Customize your public profile link” and then add your desired user name. This shows that there is only one awaseem in 150+ Million users.
  • In order to customize professional headline edit the mid-line. Try to use more keywords, it will help to raise your ranking in search engines.
  • Update the section of Additional Information by adding your company’s website, Facebook page and blog. Also link your twitter account with LinkedIn…. How??
  • … go to settings, select Profile and then click on Manage your Twitter settings and add your account. Now we have done with profile creation, the next step is to add connection….
  • Before going to add connection first I will prefer to give a brief introduction about the types of connection. There are three types of connections, First Degree connections, Second Degree Connections and Third Degree connections. First degree connections are those to whom you personally e.g. your colleagues or classmates. Second Degree connections mean friends of your first degree connections. Similarly third degree connections mean friends of your second degree connections. I have 1,050 first degree connection that link me to 8.1 Million other professionals. Now move toward how to add connections….
  • ..To add connections go to your contacts and click on add connections. Use your emails (like, Yahoo or Gmail) to import all contacts.
  • Message to more than one connections: it is very important and interesting, most of the people do not know how to send message to more than one connections in single attempt. There are two methods by which a message could be sent to more connections, through LinkedIn and By Exporting Contacts.
  • In this method you will click on Inbox, then on Compose Message. Write you message here, in order to select connections, click on LinkedIn Icon. By this a new window will be opened.
  • Choose Connections: A list of alphabets from A to Z is given in this column, I rarely selected an alphabet “I” and found that there are 42 connections, I just selected the top box, all 42 connections are automatically selected. The second window is showing that I have selected 42 connection out of 50, so still I can select 8 more connections that can easily be selected from any other alphabet. But problem is that my connections are 1,072, in order to share info with all of them I need to repeat the said method for approximately 22 times, which is time wasting. So I found another way ….
  • … .. by which we can export emails of all connections in excel form and then we can use all of those emails for branding purpose through Gmail, Yahoo or any other medium. To export contacts selection “Connections” from “Contacts”, this window will be opened, select “Export Connections”. By this an excel file will automatically be downloaded.
  • This type of file will be exported, which will show First & Last Name, Email Address, Company Name and Job Title. Copy email address from this sheet and convert them to text in MS Word file and use them for branding purpose.
  • LinkedIn Default Setting. A box you want to uncheck on LinkedIn.
  • Go to setting, then select account, then select “Mange Advertising Preferences” and the uncheck this box. By this, your connections will not be able to export, your email, for their personal use. Till now we have discussed how to create profile, how to add connections and how to send message to more than one connections in an easy way. Now we want to check what people are saying about our organization. For that purpose we will use LinkedIn Signals.
  • Use LinkedIn Signal to Hear What People are Saying… how??
  • Go to “News” and the select “Signal”
  • In Signal section, I searched “Institute of Rural Management” and found two people, “Jonathan Kervin” and “Jeri Dennsiton” who shared the news of social media workshop of IRM, that was published in “Express Tribune”. Now its our responsibility, to view their profiles, and give them a brief introduction of IRM, for our own branding purposes.
  • What’s the benefit of looking at individual profiles? By this, you show up as a visitor on a person’s profile, and get more detail about him/her. This also helps us, to identify other social streams or contact information.
  • LinkedIn Answers is a knowledge market service by LinkedIn . It is somewhat similar to Yahoo! Answers and other knowledge markets . To ask question go to “More” select “Answers” and type your question in this box. You can also become an expert by answering other’s questions.
  • This is another way by which you can find solution of numerous problem. e.g. if you have computer networking related problem, go to answers, select Technology-IT-Computer Networking and find the solution of your problem.
  • Have you joined any groups or participated in answering the questions of those in your network? LinkedIn is an effective networking tool, but only if you use it. Identify Groups that are in your industry, Join them, LISTEN people and answer their questions, Create your own group.
  • Go to groups, select option of Create Group and fill the information and submit it….
  • Your group has been created. This is the overview of MDP Group. In order to share your group with all of your connections, click on “share group”, this window will appear. Select “post to update” it will update your status, select “twitter” box, by this your group will automatically be shared on twitter. If your twitter is linked with facebook, then it will also be shared on facebook. At the end select “Send to individuals” box and past your 1,000 emails here, that we have exported already. Click share, your group is share on twitter, facebook and with 1,000 connections.
  • Company Profile:
  • Company page has four tabs, Home, Careers, Products & Services and Insights...
  • This is the company page of Institute of Rural Management. Home tab shows the introduction of company.
  • Career Tab shows the list of employees with their resumes and list of recent vacancies, that we don’t have this time.
  • Products tab shows that portfolio of company.
  • Insight tab shows the detail of employees who have left the company. e.g. Mr. Tahmeed Shah is now working as Web Master at Prime Minister Secretariat and previously he was working as a Web Master with IRM.
