180 Degree Rule - Presentation Transcript

    1. 180 Degree Rule
      • When filming you shouldn’t cross the line of vision (in the image it’s called the axis of action).
      • This is an invisible line that has been established in the first shot.
      • This is because it will disorient the viewer as the characters position on screen will switch.
      • Some film makers purposefully break the rule to disorient the viewer.
    2. 180 Degree Rule How to get around the rule.
      • There are ways of getting around this rule.
      • You can show the camera movement from one side of the
      • line of vision to the other
      • Sometimes, if you want to purposefully distract the viewer, you
      • can use breaking the rule to your advantage.
      • However, for most films, it is better to keep the rule as otherwise
      • will interrupt the flow and orientation of the film.
