  • 3. Why Recycle?Recycling of consumer products suchas paper, glass bottles, and plasticcontainers has been around for quiteawhile. Today, however, it is more in thepublic consciousness than at any time inthe past. Recycling reduces waste andis big business as well. Here are threereasons to recycle:
  • 4. Why Recycle?- Save natural resources: Every resource on the planet is finite; however much of it there may be, we will eventually run out. Recycling conserves these resources and slows their depletion.- Save energy: It usually requires less energy to producerecycled products than to make products directly from extractedmaterials. Making an aluminum can from scratch requires 20times more energy than manufacturing it from recycledmaterials.- Reduce pollution: Most energy in the United States is made byburning fossil fuels, which contributes to global climate changeand produces pollutants that reduce the length and quality oflife. Because recycling takes less energy, it produces lesspollution. Additionally, mining raw materials for things such asaluminum cans produces toxic runoff, and producing plasticreleases toxic chemicals into the environment.
