Automated "content editing" tools can help you improve your language to make it easier to find, simpler to understand, and less costly to translate. In this demonstration, you'll see how your authors can use Acrolinx within your authoring tools to evaluate your text against your standards for terminology, spelling, grammar, style, tone of voice, and SEO (search engine optimization) to deliver content that helps improve your business.

  • Situation: IBM had dozens of different writing groups, each with unique standards and style guides. IBM wanted to be able to “speak with one voice.” They also wanted to trim translation costs and reduce editing and rewrite costs. So they turned to Acrolinx, which they’ve installed on thousands of desktops. Acrolinx guides authors to use the right words and language, measures their compliance, and uses those measurements to monitor project status and control movement of content through the process. They’ve achieved huge annual savings in authoring, editing and translation costs. They now catch errors earlier in the content production cycle, and much editing has become objective instead of being the subjective judgment of individual editors, which reduces process delays. And as a metric-driven company, IBM now regularly collects and assesses the quality of content as one of their key performance indicators.Solution: guidance, measurement, control (gate)Results: cost savings, “objective editing,” faster cycle time, reporting & metrics
  • Situation: Google was managing their terminology using multiple spreadsheets, each maintained by a separate group. They were spending a lot of time maintaining those spreadsheets, reconciling multiple spreadsheets, and looking up preferred vs. prohibited terms. So they turned to Acrolinx to provide central storage, management and access to their terminology. Everyone at Google can look up terms, find out how to use them, and even see their approved translations. They’re able to store their terms under multiple “domains” (or “categories”), which allows them to tailor subsets of their terminology to meet the needs of individual business units and product lines. As a result, they’ve improved their localization process, reduced their errors, and lowered their costs.
  • Situation: Medtronic makes implantable medical devices such as pacemakers, so they have to provide accurate and carefully controlled information to regulators, doctors and patients. They market their products all over the world, so they have to translate precisely into dozens of different languages. So they turned to Acrolinx to control terminology to help maintain accuracy, streamline their writing to reduce translation costs, and guard against the use of words & phrases that could be misinterpreted or mis-translated.As a result, they’ve improved their editing and localization processes, reduced re-writes and re-edits, and lowered their costs and cycle time.
  • Situation: Symantec is a huge software company that grew very fast through organic growth and acquisitions. They now sell many different products in many different countries. They were driven primarily by the need to switch from phased rollouts, where they introduced new products and versions country by country (or region by region), to simultaneous worldwide availability of new products and versions. The only way they could accomplish that would be to significantly reduce localization cycle time by using machine translation. So they turned to Acrolinx to control their language so that their sentences would have fewer words and simpler construction. This would not only speed up human translation, but it would also enable machine translation. As a result, they’ve been able to handle massive growth in their localization burden while restraining costs and achieving simultaneous global availability of their products: cash savings, faster cycle time, machine translation, global availability.
  • Situation: Our last example is a company that we cannot yet name. They publish thousands of knowledgebase articles to support their products, and they realized that a huge number of their support calls were asking for information that was readily available on their website. They theorized that they had a problem with “findability,” so they decided to improve their findability by ensuring that the right keywords were placed at the right points in their document.Acrolinx’s most recent product release, Acrolinx 3.0, offers generally available support for improving findability. This new release helps authors optimize their content for search engines in many ways including checking that the right keywords appear in the right locations. At our demo tomorrow at this same time, you’ll have a chance to see the new release in action. In this case, they achieved more than 100% increase in search hits for the articles that they optimized, and they measured more than a one-third reduction in support calls related to the topics that those articles covered. While we’re only speculating, we think that with twice as many customers able to find what they need and take care of their own needs, their customers are even happier and more satisfied than they were before. Results: more self service, lower support burden, happier customers
