  3. 3. <ul><li>Ragtime music formed from European Classical and West African Tribal music which evolved into Jazz at the turn of the 20 th Century New Orleans. </li></ul><ul><li>Since the birth of Jazz, over two dozen distinct styles that have emegered. </li></ul>
  4. 5. <ul><li>Language Arts </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Read Duke Ellington by Andrea Davis Pinkney. Have the students research other famous artists from Jazz music.   8. 9. <ul><li>Students can come across the meaning of the word Jazz (vulgar term) </li></ul><ul><li>Music that is too upbeat might make student disruptive in the classroom and music that is too calming may want to put students asleep. </li></ul><ul><li>Some students may find music a distraction while taking a test, reading, or working on school work </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers are under pressure to improve reading and math scores and music takes away time from these subjects </li></ul>
