  • Downloading eBooks to your eReader (Nook [without wireless], Sony Reader, Kobo, Pandigital, etc) Using OverDrive with the Alachua County Library District
  • Visit the library’s eBranch (www.aclib.us), and click the Digital Media link below the search bar.
  • Click the red Connect Now button under OverDrive.
  • You are now in our digital catalog, OverDrive (http://overdrive.aclib.us). At the bottom of the page, click the Software link.
  • Click Adobe Digital Editions.
  • A new window will open to the Adobe Digital Editions Page. Click Download now.
  • Click the link for the version for your OS (Macintosh or Windows).
  • Save the file, then run it to start the install. You will need to Agree to the terms to proceed.
  • Select your setup options (or leave them as the defaults), then click Next.
  • Choose a location to save Adobe Digital Editions (or keep the default). Click Install.
  • Once the Setup has completed, click Done.
  • To read eBooks from the library, you’ll need to authorize your computer by going to Help then Authorize Computer.
  • Click Create an Adobe ID to create a new account. (If you already have one, click I forgot my password.)
  • Registration requires an email address and minimal information. Click Create to register.
  • Back in Adobe Digital Editions, enter the Adobe ID and password you just created, then click Authorize.
  • Now that Adobe Digital Editions is installed, go back to the OverDrive collection. You’ll want to Sign In first, to set your lending periods.
  • You will be asked to enter your library card number (no spaces, no dashes) and PIN. Click Sign In.
  • From your Account page, click Settings.
  • Set the lending periods to your preferences and click Done. Checkout periods will rely on your settings here.
  • Browse the OverDrive collection using any of the categories listed at the top of your screen. Or…
  • Enter a title or author in the Search box at top left.
  • Available titles will show a dark gray icon at the top right corner. Unavailable titles will show light gray.
  • Click Available Now to show only items available right away.
  • In Advanced Search, you can limit by many options, including EPUB or items with available copies only.
  • When you find the book you want, click Borrow. If you see only Place a Hold, the title is checked out.
  • You are taken to your Bookshelf. Some titles can be Read in the Browser.
  • To open the book in Adobe Digital Editions, click Download then EPUB then Confirm & Download.
  • The book opens in Adobe Digital Editions in Reading view. Click Library to go to Library View.
  • Plug your eReader into the computer using the USB. Click the gear to the right of the device then Authorize Device .
  • If you have several Adobe IDs, you’ll be prompted to choose one. Then click Authorize Device again.
  • Once your device has been authorized, click OK to proceed.
  • Click on All Items to go back to Library View.
  • Drag and drop the cover of the book onto your eReader. You’ll see a message that the book is being copied to your device.
  • When the transfer is complete, safely eject and disconnect your eReader from the computer. The eBook will be on your device!
  • Congratulations on your first download! Enjoy reading your eBook! • Some eReaders put the eBook directly on the homepage of the device. • Some devices (such as the Nook) put it under Files in My Documents.
