Jam Session – Thesaurus Master 2  Find a term  Add scope note  Add editorial note  Identify a term’s facet – see Facet view  Add term with notation code  (available in NTL thesaurus) 4

Jam Session – Test MAI Click Test MAI tab Key in: “Picasso experimented with a range of painting styles and techniques from his Blue period works to Cubism.” Click Get MAI button Select appropriate terms for the document Search Thesaurus for other appropriate terms; select and add them Click Log MAI 5

Jam Session – MAI Rule Builder 1 Click M.A.I. Rule Builder tab Click Statistics > New statistics See Statistics report for group of documents newly indexed (one!)  # Hits, # Misses, # Noise Click key at Misses > Painters > Doc# Click key at Noise > Rhythm and blues music > Doc# (same doc) 6

Jam Session – MAI Rule Builder 2 Finetune rules for Misses: Painters  What word in document prompted you to think of term Painters?  Create new rule – this word is Text to Match  Simple rule? Need any conditions?  Save rule  Retry – Painters shows in suggested terms 7

Jam Session – MAI Rule Builder 3 Finetune rules for Noise: Rhythm and blues music  What word prompted the noise term?  Shows at right of the term  Find culprit rule to fix  Just click bad term OR  Search with prompt word as Text to Match, using * to widen your search  Select rule to finetune  Add or change conditions as needed  Save rule  Click Retry – or – check results in Test MAI 8

TM/MAI – finetune rules MAI Rule Builder tab  Statistics > New stats  Note overall stats for Hits, Misses, Noise 9
