Course Overview• Definitions, implications and proper use of common IT terms The theories behind digital computing, semiconductor electronics, and applications of cryptography and security• The history and purpose of telecommunication protocols and standards• The usage of Blackboard, Portfolios tools and web spaces The design and application of web tools• In essence – an overview/intro course to technologies
  11. 11. Course Overview• Collaboration tools: Understanding the basic theories of digital communication and networking, the client/server model, and peer-to-peer networks. Effectively using email, file servers and the Web to share information and work collaboratively.• Information systems: • Understanding the roles hardware and software play in digital information systems. Information sources: • Managing personal information resources and tools; locating and evaluating on-line information sources.• Automation: Understanding and applying end-user workflow automation tools such as scripting languages, macros, etc. to practical information tasks.• Presentation: Understanding and applying principles of good design for presentation; using web development tools and web services.
