  • 5. A soldier arrives in a town square in Seville, when a group of women, including the beautiful gypsy, Carmen, exits the cigarette factory building. Moments later, a fight breaks out and Carmen is captured. The soldier is commanded to escort her to prison. However, Carmen charms him into letting her escape. When the soldier is discovered for letting Carmen escape, he is thrown into jail for one month's time.

A victorious bullfighter who arrives to Seville with a celebrating entourage, attempts to capture Carmen's heart. However, his attempts are unsuccessful, as Carmen's heart waits for the soldier's release from prison. When the soldier finally arrives, Carmen dances for him. She mocks his military obedience and tries to persuade him to remain with her and live the free gypsy life. She convinces him and both they flee to the mountains with two smugglers.

  • 9. Some time later Carmen decides she no longer loves the soldier. A certain day, after discussing their plains, the smugglers leave the hideout when the bullfighter arrives telling the soldier about his crush on Carmen.

  • 13. During the procession of the toreadors, Carmen and the bullfighter are seen arriving together. Carmen is warned that the soldier is lurking around plotting to kill her. While the bullfighter enters the bullfighting ring, a desperate soldier meets Carmen outside the arena.
