  3. 3. S <ul><li>Sumerians settled at the mouths of rivers </li></ul>
  4. 4. O <ul><li>Other people traded with the Sumarians along the water route </li></ul>
  5. 5. P <ul><li>People who learned to write were called </li></ul><ul><li>scribes. </li></ul>
  6. 6. O <ul><li>Ordinary people worked on dikes and farms </li></ul>
  7. 7. T <ul><li>Tablets, made of clay were used for writing </li></ul>
  8. 8. A <ul><li>Artisans made cloth, pottery and jewellery </li></ul>
  9. 9. M <ul><li>Most houses were made of bricks and mud </li></ul><ul><li>mixed with straw </li></ul>
  10. 10. I <ul><li>Irrigation brought water to the soil </li></ul>
