S <ul><li>Sumerians settled at the mouths of rivers </li></ul>
O <ul><li>Other people traded with the Sumarians along the water route </li></ul>
P <ul><li>People who learned to write were called  </li></ul><ul><li>scribes. </li></ul>
O <ul><li>Ordinary people worked on dikes and farms </li></ul>
T <ul><li>Tablets, made of clay were used for writing </li></ul>
A <ul><li>Artisans made cloth, pottery and jewellery </li></ul>
M <ul><li>Most houses were made of bricks and mud </li></ul><ul><li>mixed with straw </li></ul>
I <ul><li>Irrigation brought water to the soil </li></ul>
A <ul><li>And the Sumerians were able to grow barley </li></ul>
