  1. Symbolism in Lord of the Flies

    • Symbolism
    • Symbolism- An object or thing that represents something we cant hold or touch.
    • Ex: Chains are something that we can hold and touch. Symbolically chains means slavery, no freedom. Although we can touch and feel chains, we cant hold slavery.
    • You can decipher what an object symbolic meaning is by asking yourself, what are somethings I feel about this object by using my senses and what comes straight into my mind when I see the object?
  2. Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
    • In the book Lord of the Flies, symbolism is a key factor to understanding the story. Some examples of symbolism from the book are the conch, the pigs head on the stick, etc. Another example is the spear used by the children. This weapon has a symbolic meaning to it and translates to the personality of the book.
  3. A Spear ' s Symbolic Meaning
    • The spear in the Lord of the Flies has a symbolic meaning of war and savageness. A spear is a weapon used in battles still now. These long sticks with blades at the end has a meaning of war and unregular aggressive behavior just by looking at it. Many people and tribes use these weapons to hunt food and attack enemies in aggressive ways. The way it is built also show its symbolic meaning. Things like bones and teeth represents savageness.
  4. A Spear ' s Symbolic Meaning
    • The spear's symbolic meaning relates to the book by the characteristics of the characters in Lord of the Flies. The kids hunt animals in aggressive ways, they fight each other, steal their companion's belongings like Piggy's glasses, have disputes frequently, etc. They even use spears as there weapons of choice. All of these relates to a spear's symbolic meaning of war and savageness. That's how the symbolic meaning of the spear translates to the book.
